Denise is a Saint Louis native that has worked in the hospitality industry over 15 years. She found her passion for wine almost a decade ago and has since received the following certificates: Certified Sommelier, Certified Specialist of Wine, and BarSmarts WIRED. She is the owner and a founding member of Mid-American School of Wine and currently consults local wine bars and restaurants in Saint Louis. Her books "PreSomm Course Book" and "PreSomm Maps & Graphics" were published in the fall of 2018. They are available for purchase here, and are part of the PreSomm Wine Course package. She is also developing a series of wine posters to be sold on www.PreSomm.com.
Alex is an industry veteran that moonlights with his recently awarded doctorate in East Asian History. He was a member of the Fall 2017 PreSomm course and immediately took his Introductory Sommelier course and passed. He currently works for the international restaurant firm ESquared Hospitality at Grand Tavern by David Burke as sommelier. Alex was the Spring 2018 PreSomm intern and is now an Associate Instructor for all PreSomm Wine Courses.
Abigail works for the City of St. Peters and recently earned her Bachelors in Communications from Missouri State University. Her interest in wine first began in early 2015 while working with Denise in a small wine bar where she was able to study in the Fall 2015 PreSomm course. From there, she passed her Introductory Sommelier Certification and was an Intern Instructor for the Fall 2017 PreSomm Course. Now she is a current Associate Instructor for PreSomm Wine Courses with hopes of studying more under the direction of Denise.
Taylor has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications from Drake University. By day she is the Social Media Content Specialist at Meredith Corporation. She was the PreSomm Social Media and Marketing Intern for Spring 2018, with a goal of building brand recognition, identity and voice through engaging Social Media posts and web-driven reach tactics. Taylor is now our Social Media & Marketing Associate with a focus on our business to business growth.
Cherie is a multi-faceted powerhouse in the Saint Louis hospitality scene, having been both an Executive Chef and a Beverage Director in the last ten years. She left the back of house to pursue a career in wine after passing her Certified Specialist of Wine exam and soon became a beloved sommelier. Through her studies Cherie created an array of digital maps to help pass her exams. Now, PreSomm owner Denise Mueller is taking the artwork to a new market: The PreSomm book set! Cherie has been an integral part of both Mid-American School of Wine and PreSomm, and we are thrilled to have partnered with her for this project.
Abbie is a recent graduate of the 2019 spring semester of PreSomm. She started her industry career in St. Louis and was immediately taken with wine. Her knowledge and experience in wine theory and service has been greatly influenced by the many talented chefs and bar managers that she has had the pleasure of working with in this city. She plans to continue studying for her certification upon completing her internship.
