How did PreSomm come to be?

In 2008, I was looking to learn about wine and having a hard time getting started. As a result, myself and 3 colleagues created this course in 2013 due to a lack of foundational wine education in our area. PreSomm was born!

I stand behind the program 100% as the BEST and ONLY *in-person* course of its kind, as it does not solely focus on one accrediting body’s style or data set. It is meant to be a wonderful foundation in wine theory, wine service, and wine tasting for anyone.

The PreSomm Wine Course is truly a proprietary product, and is not tied to the following international accrediting bodies: Court of Master Sommelier, Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET), or Society of Wine Educators (SWE/CSW).

Is this certification only through the PreSomm organization, And is it nationally recognized?

The exam and its certificate are widely known in the Saint Louis market, and it was always my hope to take it regional after 2019. The pandemic had other plans and instead we shuttered the public course for 3 years while I navigated the options.

I am so thankful to bring the public course back for this fall!

Can you tell me a little bit more about the end results of the PreSomm Wine Course?

I have listed my goals when created the PreSomm Wine Course below:

~ Court of Master Sommelier Level 1 (Introductory Sommelier) Wine Theory knowledge available in the book. We focus on the "core basics" for the 8-week course.

~ Amazing preparation for Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) exam, and though that exam is significantly more difficult theory wise, this is a wonderful snapshot before digging into their book.

~ Amazing preparation for Court of Master Sommelier Level 2 (Certified Sommelier) WINE SERVICE portion, both still wine and sparkling wine, and also include blind tasting basics discussions.
